The Energy Web Token (EWT) is a relatively new crypto-coin created by Energy Web. EWT is like Ethereum’s tree-hugging hippie little brother who grew up to be a technologist. Rather than existing on its own as innovation for innovation’s sake, EWT exists to facilitate other efforts that Energy Web is making in the management of sustainable energy markets.
Energy Web has EW-DOS, a suite of software tools and standards for building applications in the energy space that interconnect, and Switchboard which is a credentialing solution for distributed applications.
There’s a lot to digest here to see if this is just an over-hyped whitepaper or a real solution for energy applications. The BitHaven team is in a wait-and-see mode now, but having our friends at the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) taking a deeper look gives this a lot of street cred.
